I don’t have my tax documents from 2024. How can I access them?

You can sign-in to your CRA My Account to access tax documents, check your benefit payments, change your address or set up direct deposit. There are a few different sign-in options available to you, including using sign-in partners such as your banking institution.

You can access your CRA My Account by visiting the following URL:

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/cra-login-services.html

Logging in to your CRA My Account for the first time can be time-consuming. Please give yourself ample time to complete the registration process. This should be done before the day of your appointment to allow time to troubleshoot. If you have been locked out of your account or require further assistance, please contact the CRA directly at:

What are my options for having my taxes filed by The Inn?

We have 3 options for filing income taxes with The Inn and you can choose which option works best for you.

#1 – Appointments at The Inn

  • We have appointments every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon during March and April. If you require additional support for the process, this may be a good fit. Your return will be e-filed during the appointment.
  • Contact Reception at 519-344-1746 x 301 to book an appointment. Spots are very limited!

#2 – Mobile Income Tax Clinics

  • The Inn has mobile income tax clinics throughout Lambton county during March and April. We visit most Lambton County communities at least once, so if you do not live in Sarnia The Inn can still help you file your taxes!
  • Many of the host sites oversee their own scheduling, so you may be referred to another agency to book your appointment.
  • Please contact Reception for more information about this year’s mobile tax clinic schedule or to reserve a spot at a mobile clinic.

#3 – Drop Off Service at The Inn

  • Clients can drop off their income tax documents at The Inn and a volunteer will e-file their return.
  • Clients are required to complete and submit a Drop Off Information Sheet with their tax documents. Drop Off Information Sheets can be downloaded here
  • This can take 3-4 weeks to complete during tax season, and you will receive a call when your taxes are ready to be picked up. Please don’t call us – we’ll call you!
  • This is the best option for most people needing income tax support.

How can I prepare to have my taxes done by The Inn?

If you are booking a tax appointment at The Inn or one of our mobile clinics, please have all of your documents ready at the time of filing. Documents submitted after your taxes have already been filed can delay the receipt of your benefits. The Inn is unable to access any T-forms for you.

If you are using our Drop Off service, please complete our Drop Off Information Sheet prior to arriving at The Inn by downloading it here. If you do not have this form, it can be completed while at The Inn, but allow yourself at least 15 minutes to fill it out.

If you are a New Resident to Canada in 2024, please let our Reception team know when you are submitting your Drop Off Information Sheet. You will be asked to complete a supplementary Blue Sheet to declare your foreign-sourced income for 2024.

What else should I know about filing income taxes?

  • Many courier positions are considered self-employed and/or independent contractors, and CVITP clinics are unable to file taxes for self-generated income. This can include:
    • Uber Eats, DoorDash, Skip The Dishes, InstaCart etc.
    • If you are unsure if you are an independent contractor, please review your employment contract or speak with your employer
  • Foreign income earned before arriving to Canada must be declared on a New Resident Blue Sheet
    • If you have continued to earn foreign income after arriving to Canada then your tax situation would not qualify as a simple tax situation
  • OSAP loans do not qualify as income, but grants do! If you have received an OSAP grant then you should have access to a T4A, which is where scholarships, awards and bursary income is recorded. Log in to your NSLSC account to download your T4A.

The Inn can file back taxes! Returns from the last 5 years can be e-filed, and anything older than 2019 can be filed through the mail. If you have more than 5 years of back taxes to complete, please contact Reception at 519-344-1746 x 301 for further guidance.
